Churches Needing Generators

From Bishop Mike Rinehart

September 16, 2008
Dear Pastors and Rostered Leaders,

After an exhausting search today we’ve located 18 generators. Thanks to his hard work as logistics person on the Rapid Response Team, David Tart now has these at Peace Pasadena. If you need one, please contact him right away. (713) 992-0915.

The criteria for generators is as follows:

1. Congregations who have people who have medical electrical needs (e.g. defibulators, O2, insulin, C-PAP)
2. Churches that have the capacity to use a generator to serve their community (distributing food, ice, etc.), that could become volunteer centers for their area.
3.Congregations that want to give them to congregational members for convenience.

Christus Victor, League City is distributing ice to the community. They’re up and running and their school opens tomorrow. Zion Houston is a FEMA site. Peace Pasadena is a Red Cross Shelter.

The area of Houston without power is the size of New York state. We’re down from 2.8 million without power to 2 million without power.

Most congregations have tree damage. Congregations that we’ve heard from that have damage other than just trees:

St. John Port Arthur – steeple, roof, water damage
St. Mark’s Bridge City – 4’ of water
Galilean La Place – wind damage
Grace Conroe – Store front windows blown out, water
First Galveston -- ?

Faith Dickinson – Tree into corner of Sanctuary. Bldg badly damaged.
